We’ve just finished our 10-day trip to Thailand and are excited to share everything that happened during our stay. First, we want to thank Eliese, our travel advisor at Autour Asia, for her professionalism and quick assistance, which made our journey smooth and unforgettable. Thailand is stunning, from the vibrant Bangkok to the peaceful Chiang Mai. I’ve written my review on our Thailand itinerary for 10 days, and I hope it will be helpful to other travelers in Thailand.
Where to go in Thailand in 10 days? We arrived in Bangkok around 10 AM. The airport driver quickly picked us up and took us to the Ambassador Hotel Bangkok. This hotel is centrally located, making getting around quite convenient. Our room was clean and comfortable. After check-in, we had lunch at the hotel and rested.
Due to the long flight, our first day was pretty easygoing. In the evening, we went to Terminal 21, the shopping mall that Eliese had recommended. The mall is stylish and modern, with many shops offering local and international products.
In the food court, my wife and I had pad thai and mango sticky rice, which were delicious. My wife particularly loved the restrooms on each floor, each designed with a different theme, which she found unique.
On the second day of our 10 days in Thailand, we took a Bangkok city tour. Our first stop was the Grand Palace, which provided plenty of insights into Thai royalty.
Next, we visited Wat Phra Kaew, a sacred Buddhist site in Bangkok. The guide showed us the famous Emerald Buddha statue. After Wat Phra Kaew, we went to Wat Pho, home to the gigantic Reclining Buddha statue.
For lunch, we ate in Chinatown. My wife loves Chinese food, especially dim sum, so the guide took us to a Chinese restaurant. Besides the dim sum, the steamed buns were also delicious.
In the afternoon, we took a boat ride on the Chao Praya River, an unforgettable experience, watching the bustling life of the locals. The boat stopped at Wat Arun, where we explored the temple’s towers. Thai temples are truly impressive!
Later, the driver and guide dropped us off at the hotel. In the evening, we explored the Pratunam night market on our own. There were many street food stalls, so we tried a lot of dishes, and all of them were delicious!
The driver and guide picked us up early in the morning to take us to Kanchanaburi. We stopped at the Maeklong Railway Market and the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. Both markets are incredibly unique, not just for their landscapes but also for the local way of life. We even had the chance to take a boat ride through the floating market.
Afterward, we took a break and had lunch at a restaurant near the River Kwai, offering a beautiful view of the famous bridge.
In the afternoon, we visited the Death Railway, which connects Thailand to Myanmar. Built by prisoners of war, it holds significant historical importance for Thailand during wartime.
In the evening, we had dinner near the hotel and went to bed early after a long day of travel.
In the morning, we visited Ayutthaya, about a two-hour drive away. This place was a must-see during our 10 days in Thailand as it was the country’s ancient capital, with historic sites like palaces and sacred temples.
Our first stop was Wat Phu Khao Thong, home to many tall ancient towers. Next, the guide took us to the royal palace and Wat Phra Si Sanphet. After the visits, we had lunch at Ban U Thong restaurant with giant shrimp, beautifully presented, but the taste wasn’t too impressive.
After a break, we continued exploring the ancient temples of Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit and Wat Lokaya Sutha. These temples housed large bronze Buddha statues, including a reclining Buddha in Ayutthaya.
In the evening, we strolled along the river and enjoyed some Boat Noodles at a local restaurant. The dish was delicious!
We took a flight to Chiang Rai. The driver and guide picked us up early to head back to Bangkok. Before going to the airport, we visited the Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, a true royal palace with stunning architecture. Then, we had lunch near the airport before catching our flight to Chiang Rai.
The flight took about an hour and a half, and a local driver took us to the hotel, where we rested until the evening. That evening, we decided to take a tuk-tuk ride to explore the nearby streets, followed by a delicious pad thai at a local restaurant. This dish is amazing in every city in Thailand.
On the 6th day of our 10 days in Thailand, we continued exploring Chiang Rai’s famous temples. We are all fascinated by Buddhist culture and the unique architecture of Thai temples. Each one is different, with its distinct characteristics.
We visited Wat Phra Sing, Wat Rong Khun, and Wat Rong Suea Ten. Among them, we were especially impressed by Wat Rong Khun (the White Temple) and Wat Rong Suea Ten (the Blue Temple), not only for their distinctive colors but also for the unique structure of each temple.
In the afternoon, we took a boat trip on the Mae Kok River to the Karen village. We visited this unique village and met the long-neck tribe. The villagers were very kind, and we even fed the elephants at the village farm.
We visited Chiang Saen in the morning, the oldest city in Thailand, known for its historical ruins like Wat Pa Sak. Afterward, we visited the Opium Museum, where the guide explained why opium is legal in Thailand.
After lunch, we took a cruise on the Mekong River and saw the borders between Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos, which is why this region is called the Golden Triangle.
In the afternoon, we traveled to Chiang Mai and had dinner at the Michelin-starred restaurant The House by Ginger. It’s truly the best restaurant I’ve eaten at in Thailand. The dishes, including salads, pad thai, rice, and braised meat, were all well-seasoned and beautifully presented.
Activities to do in Thailand in 10 days? We arrived at the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary near Chiang Mai just after breakfast. We had the chance to feed the elephants and take photos with them. Some people offered us the chance to ride the elephants, but we weren’t interested in that service, so we chose not to do it.
We also had lunch there and spent the afternoon participating in a herbal balloon-making workshop. Later, I met up with the elephants again in the river to bathe them, while my wife enjoyed a therapeutic mud spa. It was such an active day for us that we went to bed early that night.
On the 9th day of our Thailand travel itinerary 10 days, we visited the Karen tribe villages. The village is surrounded by forests, offering a peaceful and authentic setting. The locals were very welcoming and warm. Nearby, our guide took us to another spot where we could swim.
After lunch in the village, we went on a bamboo raft ride along the river. In the afternoon, we did some shopping in the village before our driver took us back to Chiang Mai for the night.
On our last morning in Chiang Mai, we had breakfast at Chiang Mai Breakfast World, where my wife enjoyed some European dishes. Then, we strolled around the nearby streets before heading back to the hotel to pack our things. The driver picked us up at the hotel, and we went straight to the airport for departure formalities. This marked the end of our Thailand itinerary of 10 days.
Overall, the 10 days in Thailand were perfectly suited to our needs. The drivers were very professional, and the guides were knowledgeable. We traveled in August, so the weather in Thailand for 10 days was pleasant, a bit hot but no rain, which made all our plans run smoothly. Thank you to Eliese for helping us make this trip possible. We’re certain we’ll continue to contact our Thailand travel company Autour Asia for our next trip to Asia!
