I. Why visit Ta Dung and Buon Ma Thuot in 3 days?

Hello everyone! Our family just returned from a 3-day trip to Ta Dung and Buon Ma Thuot. The itinerary, carefully designed by Autour Asia, our Vietnam travel agency, was well-structured and logical, allowing us to enjoy our stay fully.

Here’s why we decided to visit Ta Dung and Buon Ma Thuot in 3 days:

  • Breathtaking nature: The most stunning sight is undoubtedly Ta Dung Lake, often referred to as the “Ha Long Bay in the Central Highlands”, with its numerous small islands emerging from deep blue waters. Another must-see is the majestic Dray Nur Waterfall, an untouched and preserved natural wonder.
  • Unique culture: The authenticity of ethnic villages, particularly those of the Ede people, reflects a rich history, including the legendary elephant hunter kings.
  • Delicious local cuisine: We tried so many specialties such as mountain chicken, sticky rice cooked in bamboo, and the famous Buon Ma Thuot coffee, which made us understand why this place is called the coffee capital of Vietnam.

II. Weather in Ta Dung and Buon Ma Thuot 3 days

In March, the weather in Ta Dung and Buon Ma Thuot during our 3-day trip was quite favorable for traveling. The climate was dry and pleasant, with a slight chill in the evening due to the altitude. We made sure to bring jackets for the whole family. During the day, the sun was out, but the heat was much more bearable than in Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 1: Night bus to Ta Dung - Ta Dung Lake - Buon Ma Thuot

We left Ho Chi Minh City in the evening, departing from the city center to begin our 3-day journey to Ta Dung and Buon Ma Thuot, arriving early in the morning around 5:00 AM.

Our first impression of Ta Dung was the fresh and pleasant air, which instantly revitalized us. We enjoyed breakfast before setting off to explore Ta Dung National Park.

We boarded a boat to sail across the emerald-green waters of Ta Dung Lake, weaving between its tiny scattered islands. The landscape, untouched by human intervention, exuded a peaceful and mesmerizing atmosphere.

Next, we visited the glass bridge of the Central Highlands, offering us a spectacular panoramic view of the region’s majestic and unspoiled nature.

In the afternoon, our driver took us to Buon Ma Thuot. By the time we arrived, it was already dark, so we opted for dinner near our hotel. After a long day of travel, we concluded the first day of our 3-day adventure in Ta Dung and Buon Ma Thuot.

Day 2: Buon Don - World Coffee Museum - Khai Doan Pagoda

Day 2 of our 3 days trip to the Central Highlands Vietnam began with a visit to Kotam Ecotourism Destination, a true haven of nature and local culture. We strolled through lush gardens, followed the paths along babbling streams, and soaked in the peaceful atmosphere of this charming destination.

Next, we headed to Ako Dhong Village, home to the Ede ethnic group, renowned for their traditional longhouses. Our guide shared fascinating insights into their unique matrilineal culture, where women are central to the family. After this cultural immersion, we explored traditional funeral houses of the highlands and crossed a swaying suspension bridge over a refreshing river.

At midday, we stopped at Don Village, a place once famous for elephant hunting. We listened to captivating stories about the legendary elephant hunter king, Khunjunop, a pioneer in the domestication of wild elephants in the region.

In the afternoon, we returned to Buon Ma Thuot city center to visit a must-see landmark: the World Coffee Museum. A true temple dedicated to this iconic beverage, the museum showcased Vietnam’s coffee history through unique artifacts. The experience wouldn’t have been complete without a tasting of pure, locally grown coffee, an unforgettable sensory moment in Vietnam’s coffee capital.
