After breakfast, begin your day by exploring the local market. Then, head towards Mae Hong Son, making your first stop at the village of Baan Phang Paek, home to the Lisou community, a Sino-Tibetan ethnic minority.
Continue your journey to Ban Tham Lod, where you'll embark on a bamboo raft adventure to explore the Tham Lod caves. Cruise on the inland lake and discover its stunning calcareous formations and prehistoric coffins. This cave system, carved by water over a million years, consists of three separate caves: Sao Hin, Tukta, and IP Man. To explore them, you'll board a raft covering a distance of 1600 meters. Lunch will be provided along the way.
Next, drive to Mae Hong Son and visit three temples near the picturesque Jong Kham Lake. This area is a central hub of the city, offering restaurants, a night market, and a scenic lakeside path. Explore Wat Chong Kham, the older of the two temples, founded in 1827 by Mae Hong Son's Shan sovereign. Inside, you'll find a 5-meter-high seated Buddha in Burmese style. Wat Chong Klang, built in the 1860s, boasts a prominent Burmese-style chedi easily visible from the lake's banks. Finally, don't miss Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu, which serves as a sentinel for Mae Hong Son. For the best experience, visit during sunset between November and February when the surrounding mountains are shrouded in mist.
Stay overnight in Mae Hong Son.
In the morning, embark on a picturesque boat ride along the Pai River to witness stunning scenery and the simple lifestyle along the riverbanks. Make a stop at the Long-Necked Karen village, where women wear distinctive brass neck rings.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant, after which you'll continue your journey to visit the Su Tong Pae Bridge, Thailand's longest bamboo bridge. Next, head directly to "Baan Rak Thai Village," situated on the border between Thailand and Myanmar and known for its large nearby lake.
Your next destination is the serene Shan village of "Baan Ruam Thai," also called Pang Oung. Nestled among rugged mountains, this village features a breathtaking landscape with a spectacular lake often referred to as "Thailand's Switzerland." The area is surrounded by pine forests and boasts colorful winter flowers, creating a year-round cold and peaceful atmosphere.
Stay overnight in Mae Hong Son
In the morning, travel south to Mae Chaem and explore Doi Inthanon National Park, home to Thailand's highest mountain, reaching over 2,565 meters. Take in the breathtaking views of the peaks, enjoy a nature walk along the trails, and visit the exquisite Royal Pagodas Napamaytanidol and Phra Mahatat Napaphon Bhumisiri. These pagodas were constructed to commemorate the king and queen's 60th birthdays and are surrounded by a beautiful Royal flower garden.
Next, visit a hill tribe market where locals sell their farm produce, including flowers and vegetables. Then, marvel at Vachiratharn Waterfalls, one of Thailand's largest and most magnificent waterfalls, flowing year-round.
Finally, return to Chiang Mai and transfer to your hotel or the airport.
